In line with other clubs in the Three Harbours Rowing Group, it has been agreed that the OY (Ouse Yardstick) system will be used to provide handicapped results for the Tudor Challenge 2026.
What is the OY system?
The Ouse Yardstick has been developed by the team behind the Head of the Ouse race in Sussex, in collaboration with the Three Harbours Group of rowing clubs operating in Chichester, Langstone and Portsmouth Harbours.
Using results data from past races, we have created class-specific OY numbers that race organisers can easily use to adjust time over the course by boat class. This allows crews rowing different types of boats on coastal waters to compete on an equal footing.
How OY works
OY coefficients are used as a multiplication factor for the recorded elapsed time (arrival time – departure time):
compensated time = OY x elapsed time
Example:
Start time 12:01:13
Arrival time: 13:58:41
OY number: 0.83
Elapsed time: 1:57:28
Compensated time: 1:37:30
OY values to be applied in 2025
